Over the weekend, some news broke regarding the next Wolverine movie, which will reunite actor Hugh Jackman and director Darren Aronofsky. HitFix’s, Drew McWeeny sat down and spoke with Aronofsky about the project, which will be the sequel to 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a film that was universally panned for various reasons. If you’re wondering what will separate this movie from its predecessor, just take a look at its title…
So what will Wolverine 2 officially be called? How about The Wolverine? Yep, that’s the name that Aronofsky threw out when asked about the project. We take it that they’re trying to go in the same vein as The Batman, The Dark Knight, or most recently The Dark Knight Rises (a name we’re still not too keen on).
Aronofsky described the film as a “one-off” and he pressed that it wasn’t a sequel in the conventional sense. We’re not sure what that means, but it sounds like they want to pretend that X-Men Origins: Wolverine didn’t happen. Don’t worry Aronofsky, we’ve been trying to do that for the past year. We’re with you on that!
The Wolverine will supposedly center on Wolverine’s adventures in Japan, where he falls in love with a native woman, and goes up against the Silver Samurai.
